Favorite Wet Flies.

The Rivers of the North East rise from the Pennies and the Cheviot hills. These rock streams and rivers have there own particular favorites.
A group flies known as the "Northern Wets", I believe are the most important.

The Following I have found very useful:

Snipe & Purple: This very sparsely tied fly works good in ones and twos. The fly is tied usually on 12 or 14's.
This is a Good representative of not only terrestrials but of most nymphs.
I have lately been ribbing them with lead wire to get them to the bottom as an experiment.

Partridge and Orange:This spider pattern is good one in coloured water.
A good tip is if you tie them, prepare the hook beforehand with Tippex, so the orange floss is still bright when wet. Good as a dropper fly with a gold head nymph, Grayling love this one. A variant can be tied with yellow or with rib & tail.

Partridge and Silver:I can't remember where I came across this one, but I believe it's an established pattern.
To Tie, dress sparse, thin silver tinsel body you can strengthen with a wire rib or even with lead wire to make it a quick sinker,

Biblo: This really is the king of all spider flies, it must be the red stripe. Usually made in 12-14's they can be tied sparse or bushy, a good hot day fly when nothing happening. Good in ones and two's, I tie a one with green or red holographic stripe.

Greenwells Spider: Another all rounder. The smaller the better.

Yes and there's dozens more these include patterns made with waterhen, starling ect. Surf the web and look yourself. I recently saw some excellent sites made by Yorkshire Anglers, they know there spiders!
